Extraordinary Biodiversity

Covering more than 5.7 million hectares, the Great Maya Forest is one of the most biodiverse landscapes in the Americas, home to thousands of species, including jaguars, tapirs, and Scarlet Macaws.

Every year, less of the forest remains.

Over the last 50 years, more than one million soccer fields worth of forest have been lost within the Maya Biosphere Reserve alone. This figure does not include forest loss in other regions of Guatemala or across neighboring Belize and Mexico.

On the Brink of Extinction

Only about 500 Scarlet Macaws (Ara macao cyanoptera) remain in the wild across Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize. Without urgent action to stop the destruction of the forest, this iconic subspecies could disappear forever.

EN QUÉ ESTAMOS TRABAJANDO

Educar para Proteger
Educate to Protect
We bring Mayan Forest in Check to schools and universities to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. Your support helps us reach more students across Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize.
Guardianes de la Selva
Guardians of the Forest
We work with youth living within the forest, empowering them to become environmental leaders and changemakers in their own communities. Starting in Uaxactún, this project combines education, action, and biodiversity monitoring. Conservation begins from within.
La Selva No Puede Esperar
The Forest Can't Wait
The crisis facing the Great Maya Forest remains invisible to millions of people. This campaign uses media, social platforms, and strategic partnerships to raise awareness, inspire action, and drive change. Without public awareness, there is no change.
Science to Save the Great Maya Forest
Science to Save the Forest
We are developing a monitoring system to protect the Scarlet Macaw, a flagship species with fewer than 500 individuals remaining in the wild. Understanding its behavior and population is essential to its survival. Investing in science means investing in real solutions.
