About Us
Mayan Forest in Check is an impact-driven initiative designed to bring global attention to the crisis facing the Great Maya Forest, one of the last great tropical forests in the Americas.
Through audiovisual storytelling, education, and field-based action, the initiative connects science, conservation, and powerful narratives to raise awareness, engage audiences, and drive meaningful change.
Created and led by Rescue The Planet, its vision goes beyond documenting the problem.
The initiative seeks to influence decision-makers, strengthen conservation efforts, and empower new generations of environmental leaders across Mesoamerica, including the communities that live within and depend on the forest.
The goal is not only to protect what remains or simply slow the advance of destruction.
It is to begin restoring what has been lost.
The initiative works alongside key conservation partners on the ground, including the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), ACOFOP, and community forest concessions, all of whom lead direct conservation efforts in some of the region’s most critical landscapes.
It also incorporates scientific research aimed at improving our understanding of the ecosystem’s condition, including studies on migratory behavior and population monitoring of the Scarlet Macaw throughout the Great Maya Forest.
Mayan Forest in Check brings together communication, science, and action with a single purpose:
To generate the change needed to ensure that this forest still has a future.
